After a blogpost some weeks ago, I was curious about all the vinylcovers Warhol made. Some are very rare (the Count Basie record...go look in your fathers/grandfathers attic!) and some of them are really easy to find on every fleamarket.

So I started a new side-hobby. I called it "Seek the Warhol".
It's not about the music, it's about the art.

A copy of the Mona Lisa has been discovered in the Prado which was painted in Leonardo’s studio—created side by side with the original that now hangs in the Louvre. This sensational find will transform our understanding of the world’s most famous picture.

Conservators at the Prado in Madrid recently made an astonishing discovery, hidden beneath black overpaint. What was assumed to be a replica of the Mona Lisa made after Leonardo’s death had actually been painted by one of his key pupils, working alongside the master. The picture is more than just a studio copy—it changed as Leonardo developed his original composition.

The final traces of overpaint are now being removed by Prado conservators, revealing the fine details of the delicate Tuscan landscape, which mirrors the background of Leonardo’s masterpiece. Darkened varnish is also being painstakingly stripped away from the face of the Mona Lisa, giving a much more vivid impression of her enticing eyes and enigmatic smile.

This December, in a surprisingly simple yet ridiculously amazing installation for the Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane, artist Yayoi Kusama constructed a large domestic environment, painting every wall, chair, table, piano, and household decoration a brilliant white, effectively serving as a giant white canvas. Over the course of two weeks, the museum’s smallest visitors were given thousands upon thousands of colored dot stickers and were invited to collaborate in the transformation of the space, turning the house into a vibrantly mottled explosion of color. How great is this?

Given the opportunity my son could probably cover the entire piano alone in about fifteen minutes. The installation, entitled The Obliteration Room, is part of Kusama’s Look Now, See Forever exhibition that runs through March 12. If you liked this you’ll also enjoy Roman Ondak’s Room of Heights and Karina Smigla-Bobinski’s helium-filled kinetic drawing sculpture.

Selling a painting is a double feeling for me. Everytime it's a confirmation that what I make is loved by a person. It's the biggest compliment you'll ever get as a painter and stimulates to produce more. But! but!but! For me it's also a farewell to one of my babies I created. Making a painting is a proces. I start with an idea, I sketch and I create. The painting I sold during the last exhibition was one of my favorites. First of all I like curse words in paintings, because of the taboo and you cannot ignore a painting in your livingroom ;) and second of all, it hung perfectly above my dinertable!
But seriously, glad I made another costumer happy with my art.

House paint has been a part of the modernist fine-art supply cabinet for more than a century, from Picasso to Pollock to Bridget Riley. Now, the Guggenheim Museum is hoping to generate a little revenue by turning the phenomenon back in the other direction. The museum has entered into a licensing agreement with Fine Paints of Europe, a Vermont company that produces high-end commercial paints,to create a set of 200 interior and exterior wall colors drawn from well-known paintings in the Guggenheim’s collection and from wall colors that curators, artists and designers (including Frank Lloyd Wright himself) have used for exhibitions over several decades.

The artists’ colors are drawn from paintings in the museum’s collection by figures like Cézanne, van Gogh, Kandinsky and Franz Marc, whose “Stables” from 1913 provides a yellow that seems cheerful enough to brighten even the most depressing windows-look-out-onto-an-airshaft New York apartment. Neither the museum nor the company disclosed the value of the licensing agreement. The paints range from $35 to $130 per can.

Luzinterruptus is an anonymous artistic group, who carries out urban interventions in public spaces. We use light as a raw material and the dark as our canvas.

The installation Radioactive Control was created for the Dockville Festival in de Hamburg which tried to demonstrate, in a humorous tone, the paranoia that we are suffering from since the escape of radioactive material in Japan, has brought into question the safety systems at the nuclear power plants.

I am brutally in love with my little boy. So to proof him my eternal love I painted a skimboard for him with his name on it.

A skimboard is good material to paint on, by the way. Although the board gets a little crooked...

As you can see his mom used her childhood heroes..(Astroboy, Optimus Prime and Felix the cat) and I thought some good typography would do the work. The Pez letters were a hell of a job, but the result is fine by me.

The Nightmare Before Christmas has arrived in Los Angeles’ County Museum of Art…well not exactly, but film director Tim Burton will get his just due this month when the museum does a retrospective of his career works. The exhibition will feature over 700 pieces of art associate with Burton’s movies including puppets, storyboards, costumes, photographs, and more from both popular and little known projects from the director.
The exhibit that is organized by MOMA opened Sunday May 29th at LACMA 5905 Wilshire Blvd, 90036. Take a look at the gallery below for what you can expect from the exhibit.

This video is not new, I know, but it still rocks! It's a perfect mix of watercolour illustration and animation (rotoscoping). Even the texture of the "paper" is pretty cool. It's all about the details.

The music video for "My Delirium" was directed by Benji Davies and Jim Field, known as Frater. The video starts with Ladyhawke in a roadside motel looking out the window while packing her bags. The video then transitions into an animated picture on the wall, depicting Ladyhawke leaving the motel and driving along a remote desert road in a Ford Thunderbird. As the video continues, the desert road backdrop becomes more unusual, with landmarks such as Mount Rushmore with the heads of cats being passed by, until the bridge, where the car is seen to drive off a cliff and begins to fly. The video then continues with Ladyhawke playing the guitar in watercolour, and driving through space. The video finishes by fading out of the picture and back into the now-empty motel room.^Source:wiki

Whats up with your art, Linda?
I don't know. I do make a lot of art. I want people to know my art. But do I make the right art? Guess not. My art is for a small group of "likers" and I'm actually proud of that. Although I want to rule the world of course, but "hey", you got to start somewhere, right? Last piece of work I made can be seen on the left. It's a hand with a graphic pencil writing "Oh dear".
Why?
I like instruction drawings and I had that in mind making this piece.

Cristian Zuzunaga

Barcelona-born, London-based Cristian Zuzunaga studied Typo/Graphic Design at the London College of Communication followed by an MA at the Royal College of Art in London, where he started exploring the use of pixels to produce unique colourful visual landscapes.

His graphic patterns derive from zooming in on images he has taken of cityscapes until the image is broken down into these infinitesimal geometric shapes. He is interested in the subtlety and uniqueness of colour combinations that allows each image to exist, and in the unexpectedness of the patterns the pixels create.

Claire Morgan makes things that look like they're falling, but aren't. Anyway in good words: She splendid with wires.

Claire Morgan was born in Belfast in 1980. She graduated from Northumbria University in 2003 with a first class honours degree in Sculpture and is now based in London. Claire has exhibited internationally, with solo and group shows in UK and Europe, and museum shows in US and Australia.

Claire won two awards in 2004 from the Royal British Society of Sculptors for Come Fly With Me, a work that involved painstakingly repetitive and precise processes. She has continued to explore this way of working, and the challenges presented by her chosen materials and techniques have become an integral part of her practice. Red or Dead, a sculpture made of thousands of cherries, caught the attention of the judges of the Premio Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro, International Competition for Young Sculptors, Milan (2006) where Claire was awarded the first prize of Eur10,000. During this period Claire was also shortlisted or selected for a number of smaller awards.

Before I die

Candy Chang is a public installation artist, designer, and urban planner who likes to make cities more comfortable for people. She co-founded Civic Center, an urban design studio in New Orleans where she combines architecture, graphic design, and urban planning to make thoughtful public spaces and communication tools for everyday issues of city life. She’s passionate about redefining the ways we use public space to share information important to our neighborhoods and to our individual well-being.

About the project
Once the wall is filled, we wash the board with water and start with a clean slate again. We are documenting all responses and some will be included in a book. A project site is in the works. I have received many requests from people who’d like to install it in their city, so we’re looking into ways to manufacture an affordable stencil (I made this one by hand. It is a lot of cutting). Stay tuned!

There was moment in my short lifetime where it all came together and *KABOOM* there it was...my purpose in life. After seeing the best animation video ever made (at that time in 1985, I was 5 years old) it was all clear to me that I should make art in every kind of way. And oh-my-go that Morten Harket was such a fox! (fox was a cool word also at that time, so don't blame me). Of course I mean A-ha with "Take on me".
I never got the final scene where he slams himself against the wall to get rid of the comic-gewy on him, did you?

About this video
Two videos were made for the song. The first release of "Take on Me" in 1984 includes a completely different recording, and was featured in the first video, which shows the band singing with a blue background.The second video was directed by Steve Barron, and filmed at Kim's Café and on a sound stage in London, in 1985. The video used a pencil-sketch animation/live-action combination called rotoscoping, in which the live-action footage is traced-over frame by frame to give the characters realistic movements. Approximately 3,000 frames were rotoscoped, which took 16 weeks to complete.
The video's main theme is a romantic fantasy narrative. It begins with a young woman, played by Bunty Bailey drinking coffee and reading a comic book in a coffee shop. The comic is about motorcycle racing in which the hero played by Morten Harket is pursued by two opponents. As the girl reads, the waitress brings her the bill. The hero, after winning the race, seemingly winks at the girl from the page. His pencil-drawn hand reaches out of the comic book, inviting the girl into it. Once inside, she too appears in the pencil-drawn form, as he sings to her and introduces her to his black and white world.
Meanwhile in the restaurant the waitress returns and believes the girl skipped the bill. Angrily, she crumples and throws the girl's comic-book into a trash-bin. This makes the hero's two opposing drivers reappear, armed with a large wrench and apparently aggressive. Harket punches one of the thugs and retreats with the girl into a maze of paper. Arriving at a dead end, Harket tears a hole in the paper wall so that the girl can escape as he faces the two thugs as one brings the wrench down on him. The girl, now found lying beside the trash-bin to the surprise of restaurant guests and staff, grabs the comic-book from the bin and runs home, where she attempts to smooth out the creases to learn what happens next.
The next panel shows Harket lying seemingly lifeless, and she begins to cry. But he wakes up and attempts to break out of his comic-book frames. At the same time, his image appears in the girl's hallway, seemingly torn between real and comic form as he maintains the effort to break his barriers. He escapes from the comic book by becoming human and embraces the girl. This final scene is based on the 1980 movie Altered States.

It takes a lot of time and accuracy to make it exactly how you want it. Those who are interested in my paintings are sometimes shocked by the price while my prices are actually very low compare to the time that I made it.
Why the low prices?
I make a lot of paintings so I want to make a good flow. And I like selling my work to people that love my ideas on canvas.

HOW TO MAKE A PAINTING:

Step 1:
Come up with an idea that would look great on canvas. For example a Stabilo marker. Find a cool picture of this object and draw it on the canvas. (if you can't draw or too lazy to draw, stencil the basterd!)

Step 2:If you think you have enough of the object on the canvas, you can start with the colours. And that, my friend, is a job where you have to be very patient.

Step 3:
Colour some more. Trust me, this job cleans your head. After this you will feel totally in balance ;)

Step 4:
Ok almost there. Just add some more different colours and finish the canvas with some clear lacquer and then you're done.

Ron Mueck's Giant baby

If you ever have the chance to see a sculpture made by Ron Mueck you must not think but GO AND SEE! There are a few meanings of life and this is one of them. I actually fullfilled this meaning in 2003 so I am relieved.

Ron Mueck began his career working on the Australian children's television program Shirl's Neighbourhood. He was the creative director and made, voiced and operated the puppets Greenfinger the Garden Gnome, Ol' Possum, Stanley the snake and Claude the Crow amongst many others. The show was made for Channel 7 Melbourne between 1979 and 1984, broadcast nationally and starred the ex-lead singer of Skyhooks, Graeme "Shirley" Strachan.

Mueck's early career was as a model maker and puppeteer for children's television and films, notably the film Labyrinth for which he also contributed the voice of Ludo, and the Jim Henson series The Storyteller.

Normally this artwork is created on the back teeth, the molars or bicuspids. Most people prefer having it on the cheek side of the tooth, some on the tongue side. Most considered these as some what a white collar tattoo. They are seen only when the person that has one wants to share what they have, by pulling their cheek out so it could be seen. The other advantage to these tattoos is that they can easily be removed in five minutes in the dentist’s office with just a little grinding with a rubber wheel. We show the artwork on the front teeth so people can see our artistic abilities.

An Andy Warhol portrait of Chairman Mao owned by the late Easy Rider star Dennis Hopper has sold for $302,500 (£193,000) at a New York auction.

The 1972 work, which sold for more than 10 times its estimate, was among 300 items from the actor's art collection that went under the hammer.
Another Warhol print of Marilyn Monroe fetched $206,500 (£132,000).
Much of Hopper's most valuable art was sold at a November auction, raising more than $10m (£6.4m).
Warhol's Mao print was unique because it included bullet holes fired after Hopper mistook the portrait of the Communist leader for Mao himself, according to Christie's.
The actor, who died of cancer last year aged 74, later showed Warhol the bullet holes. Instead of reacting angrily, the artist called the star a collaborator.

The art of Erwin Wurm was a big inspiration for the Red hot chili peppers videoclip Can't stop (directed by Mark Romanek).
I'm actually not a big fan of RHCP, but I love their video's especially Can't stop.
I love the scene in this clip where John Frusciante gives his guitarsolo in flakes of pink styrofoam.
Coloursetting is perfect, contrast lovely, composition splendid. Pure perfection.

How I friggin love your art. I actually have a list of what work I have seen in real life made by your hands.
Your best work is actually hard to choose. This one above is absolutely my favourite. I was two steps away from your painting and it was hanging in shameless imperfection. I could not stop staring at the little imperfections.
And then it hit me right on the nose. If you weren't perfect as a true perfectionist, then why should I be perfect? Why should I make perfect art. Why should I even bother?
Since that time I hate perfectness. And I'm actually a lot happier.

Auction house Christie's is auctioning off US pop artist Andy Warhol's pink portrait of Queen Beatrix. Christie's expects the work will fetch between 300,000 and 500,000 euros.

Andy Warhol painted the portrait in 1985 as part of his series Reigning Queens, which consisted of four female monarchs: Beatrix of the Netherlands, Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, Margrethe II of Denmark and Ntombi laTfwala of Swaziland. Christie's says Warhol praised the Dutch queen as the most beautiful of the four.
The auction is scheduled for 30 November. Portraits from the series Reigning Queens have been sold in large numbers as screen prints, but the original paintings are rarely put up for auction.

Yes, you go out with your pencils, brushes and tubes of paint and you paint chewing gum on the pavement.
It's a great idea if you don't care about your knees and back, I guess.

Ben Wilson (wiki)
is a London-based artist who creates tiny works of art by painting onto chewing gum stuck to the pavement. Wilson started experimenting with occasional chewing-gum paintings in 1998, and in October 2004 began working on them full time. He has created more than 10,000 of these works on pavements all over the UK and parts of Europe. Wilson heats the gum with a small blow torch and then adds lacquer to harden it. He then uses special acrylic paints to create his designs. The paintings can take up to ten hours to produce.

Wilson's work has been featured by the media, including the BBC, This Is Local London, Raw Vision and The Daily Telegraph. Two short documentary films have also been made about Wilson. In 2005 Wilson was arrested in Trafalgar Square, and in 2009 he was arrested by the City of London Police on suspicion of criminal damage, although the case was dropped a few months later.

Space invader is definetely an underestimated streetartist. I saw several artwork of him in Berlin, Amsterdam, Rotterdam and paris. It really brightens up my day if I see one. In my hometown (Haarlem) you see a lot of fake Space Invaders and I wonder how many copycats there are in the world.

How many people are involved?
Just me. In the eight years I've been working on this project, I've traveled to 35 cities on all five continents with the sole intention of "invading" them!
Having said that, people have sent me photos of Space Invaders in towns I've never set foot in! I see it as a positive thing, a kind of tribute. I did consider setting up a group strategy but it's a hard thing to delegate. So while I don't encourage this kind of copying, I don't especially condemn it either.

Sometimes you discover a treasure afterwards.
A year a go I was in Cologne and I saw a huge ice cone on a building at the Neumarkt (a main shoppingstreet). Such a beauty!

And now a frikkin' year later I discover that it's a Claes Olderburg/ Coosje van Bruggen object. I wish I could go back in my mind to see it again. Oh well, Cologne is not that far from my place, so maybe next year.

I actually couldn't sleep after seeing the movie "Exit through the gift shop". I could not stop my mind thinking about it. How is this possible?The guy is a joke! The guy is a genius! It's not right!
The information I find on the internet about this Guetta guy does definetely not satisfy me, it's all minimum info. The guy is a cartoon character.
However I do like his work, it goes on where Warhol stopped.
I refuse to believe that this guy exists. If so, then I must say that this guy is a winner and loser at the same time.
If this is a Banksy trick (and I really want to believe it is) then it's the prank of the century!

Meet this china dude. Named Liu Bolin, an artist with the ability to transform in any chosen surrounding.
Born in 1973 in Shandong and graduated at the Shandong Art College and the Beijing's Central Academy of Fine Arts. 10 hours of make up to make these incredible camouflage acts happen. He uses himself as a blank canvas with help from his assistent. This guy is amazing.

Liu Bolin: “The situation for artists in China is very difficult and the forced removal of the artist’s studio is in fact my direct inspiration of this series of photographs, Hiding In The City…I am standing, but there is a silent protest, the protest against the environment for the survival, the protest against the state.”

While I was painting on stage at the Patronaat in my hometown (Haarlem) I came to the conclusion that art is my only way to stay happy. What did I paint that night? Well, as you can see on the picture some colourfull stuff, but I couldn't finish it due to the limited time. It was pretty hard to stay focused with all the crowd around, but it was also F*CKING great! Hope to do this more in the future.
